Growing up in New Zealand, farms were virtually on our doorstep for most of my childhood. When I first saw the Wood Textures suite, it reminded me of home... lush green countryside with farm animals roaming the paths at their leisure, cow pats you had to be mindful not to step in.... ah the good 'ole days. It holds a touch of nostalgia for times when we went on school camps, or excursions out to a local farm, or a birthday sleepover at a friend's farm.
Today I decided to create a card based on this suite, something simple, effective but able to be generic for a range of occasions.
"Rustic Rooster"
I wanted a rustic, homely feel to today's card and opted for Night of Navy, Calypso Coral and Whisper White as my main colour theme. The stamp set used was the new "Wood Words" set which features a range of stamps from an elegant floral stamp, to various rustic shapes (think star, moon, heart) and a couple of sentiments. For this card I wanted to base it around the floral stamp as this is one of my favourites from this suite. It is versatile in that you can opt to use it as a background image, layering it in two colour tones, colouring it in or leaving it as I did.
Today's card features a layered effect - first with the cardstock, then the stamping and then the layered sentiments and rooster. I daubered Night of Navy around the Note Circle card, and used the Wood Crate Framelits Dies to cut out the label tag for the "For You" sentiment. Whisper White Baker's Twine was used to complement the stamped images.
The Wood Crate framelits dies I wasn't a huge fan of when I first saw it advertised, but after using the set today, realise the value of having these when using the coordinating stamp set - And the good news it that you can purchase the stamp set & framelits dies as a bundle, saving you money! The framelits dies don't just consist of the wooden crate, but also comprises of a gorgeous little tag (as used on my card), and shapes to die cut the rooster, heart, moon, etc. The only thing that it doesn't contain was any circle dies, which meant I had to use my layering circles framelits dies to dicut my circle. Not a huge issue, but just something to be aware of.
The Wood Word Stamps Set is one which is unique in that it can be used in the rustic way it has been presented in the catalogue, and looks stunning when paired with the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper, but it also has the ability to be used in completely different ways/ themes if you think outside the box. A fellow friend & demonstrator, Rosalie Desmond, made a beautiful baby card today using the moon, star and miniature star stamps to create a lovely background (it will likely appear on her blog in the near future). So I definitely challenge you to think outside the box with this stamp set - you can create some gorgeous cards if you put your mind to it ;)
